In an earlier article, I explained how to use the OS X Server wiki service on more than one virtual host on the same machine. After the upgrade to Mavericks, the web app which enables the multi-site wiki service needs to be updated.
You know you’ve upgraded your OS X Server to Mavericks when websites disappear, MySQL won’t start up, your PHP includes have been erased, htaccess-based security is gone, and Apache performance bogs down. Fortunately, it’s not too difficult to put everything back together again.
Among some PHP aficionados, this is probably already well known, but it was news to me: array_intersect_key is vastly more efficient than array_intersect. Even when intersecting one-dimensional arrays, it turns out to be much faster to artificially turn them into associative arrays with array_combine first, just to avoid the slowness of array_intersect.
Straight out of the box, the Mountain Lion Server wiki service — externally smooth and polished though it may be — appears to be one of Server.app’s single biggest sources of errors and warnings written to the logs. Should you try to ‘fix’ them or let them be?
If you’d like to activate the wiki service on domains other than your server’s default site, there doesn’t seem to be any built-in way to do it. However, by leveraging the web app framework baked into OS X Server, you can easily set it up so the wiki service can be turned on or off for a given domain with the flick of a switch.
Without diving into the arguments for and against moving the wp-config.php file as a security precaution, if you do decide to secure the file, here’s one way of doing it that draws on an earlier suggestion about enabling PHP code to adapt to different server storage architectures.
